2007 Al Reker Award
Melanie Courrier, Pope County Court Services Director

The Minnesota Association of County Probation Officers presented their highest award, the Al Reker Award to Melanie Courrier, Pope County Court Services Director on May 23, 2007. The Al Reker award is given annually to individuals who have shown professionalism and dedication in the field of corrections.

Melanie has been dedicated to the field of corrections her entire career. She previously worked at Wright County Court Services in Buffalo and was a mentor to many of the staff. Her nomination form read in part, "Melanie is a person who holds respectable qualities including compassion, patience and understanding." Melanie was the president of MACPO in 2003-2004 and has served on many of this association’s committees. Melanie is highly respected in this field and MACPO honors her dedication with this award.

2007 Excellence in Corrections Award
Woodland Hills

On May 23, 2007 MACPO was excited to give the 2007 Excellence in Corrections Award to Woodland Hills. This award is given to recognize programs that have shown leadership and development in corrections.

Woodland Hills (originally called St. James Home for Children) began in 1909 as an orphanage for the Catholic Diocese; in 1971 they became officially known as Woodland Hills. Since 1909, Woodland Hills has served nearly 20,000 youth in their per diem and voluntary programs. Their current programs include: the Chisholm House, which began in 1982 – a consequence program; Intensive Day Program, which began in 1990 – an alternative program for youth at risk of out-of-home placement; Neighborhood Youth Services, which began in 1991 – a free, voluntary program for Duluth youth and Community Transition, which began in 1998 for male residents and 2004 for female residents – which teaches independent living skills. Steve Mattson, Chief Program Officer, received the award for Woodland Hills.

 
 

 




2007 Outstanding Performance Award
Jill Hady, Career Agent
Brown County Court Services

On May 23, 2007 Brown County Probation Officer Jill Hady was presented with the 2007 Outstanding Performance Award. Jill has been a probation officer with Brown County since 1991.

Jill's nomination included that she is a very dedicated hard working probation officer. In the past few years, she was given the task of starting a driver's license return program and a group supervision program for low risk offenders. Jill worked hard with a variety of professionals in order to make sure both programs were successful.

Jill is highly regarded in the corrections world; she held the position of MACPOST chair and was elected as treasurer for MACPO in the 1990's. Jill continues to serve on MACPO committees along with a variety of other State Association Boards and local committees. Jill comes to work each day with a positive attitude and determination to make a difference. MACPO Congratulates Jill on this well deserving award!

 
 

 




Outgoing President Recognition Award
Tracy Green, Career Agent, Brown County Court Services

Tracy receives a plaque as outgoing president of MACPO for the 2006-2007 year. Tracy worked hard this past year and did an outstanding job for the members!

 



Outgoing Treasurer Recognition Award
Jeremie Reinhart, Pine County Court Services

Jeremie Reinhart was given a recognition plaque for his two years as treasurer for MACPO. Thank you and congratulations Jeremie.

Minnesota County Probation System 2010 Evidence Based Practices and Supervision Fee Survey


The MACPO Legislative Committee assigned an "Option 60" sub-committee to look into an early retirement option for probation officers and corrections agents funded by increased employee contributions to PERA.

PERA conducted an actuarial study in 2008, and the findings were presented to MACPO on April 20th, 2009. Here are the results of the study in PDF format. Also, an informational newsletter was put together in October 2009, explaining the Early Retirement Option and how it works in PDF format.
