Did you know MACPO's original name was the Southern
Minnesota Probation Officer's Association? Its true, MACPO actually
started as a small group of probation officers from southern minnesota
that began meeting in 1954 in Rochester for support. Back in the 1950's
most counties only had one probation officer, many times one agent
covered two and sometimes three counties. In 1956, the Southern MN
Probation Officer's Association changed their name to MACPO and agents
from all over the State joined this group. They met often and developed
many of the policies that still stand today. They stood strong for
the CPO system where Judges appoint probation officers, they stood
strong for 50 percent reimbursement, they developed a legislative
platform and helped influence statutes and policies that help probation
officers do their job every day.
